Our new Wanker of the Week is the Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Great Yarmouth. Stephen Newton has decided to go on holiday until 22nd April instead of campaigning for his party in the run-up to the General Election on 5th May. From a beach somewhere in Spain Mr.Newton said "We had this holiday booked in December. There's not much I can do about that …. a bit of a disaster in the timing of the election. It would not be fair on the family not to go". He joked he did not want to cancel the holiday as he "didn't want to go through a divorce". Some might say he was simply being realistic. In the last election Great Yarmouth was won by Labour with 20,344 votes, followed by the Tories with 15,780. The Lib Dems trailed in with only 3,392. Mr.Newton said he would have cancelled the holiday if "I thought my presence would really swing it". Quite sensible, really. Of course, some of us might wonder if the Lib Dems will ever manage to do better than third place if their candidates can't be bothered to turn up. It's not as if we haven't all had, for several months, a pretty good idea when the election would be. What's more alarming is the attitude of Mr.Newton's party. A spokesman said: "We are not concerned" and added that criticism from the Conservative and Labour candidates was just "typical party political banter". Well, Mr.Spokesman, this isn't party political banter. This is the GOS's Wanker of the Week Award, and your alleged candidate just won it. I hope you're satisfied. Let's face it, he isn't likely to win anything else. either on this site or on the World Wide Web. This site created and maintained by PlainSite |
